OnFarm - Energy Solutions for Producers

When Nick and Don Slomp of Ridgeview Dairy rebuilt their family dairy farm, their main concern was producing a quality product in the most efficient way possible. The brothers have incorporated a number of energy efficiency technologies to cut energy use on their farm. They have also had an energy assessment conducted, as a test case for Climate Change Central's OnFarm program, to identify more ways to reduce energy use.

Dairy, poultry and swine producers in southern Alberta can receive an energy assessment to find out how they can save money and protect Alberta's resources. Participating producers pay only $200 of the $1,800 cost of the assessment, which includes recommendations for reducing energy use.

The long-term goal of the program is to develop a regional network that increases producers' access to the equipment, supplies and financing services they need to make long-term energy efficiency improvements on their farms.
